This tutorial guide will show you how to set up a VPN on yourD-Link router DIR-842with the L2TP protocol. After setup, you may connect any number of devices to the VPN.
Note:L2TP/IPsec provides weak security benefits and should only be used for anonymization or for changing locations.
This tutorial was tested using D-Link DIR-842 (Firmware Version: 2.02). Please note some D-Link routers accept only IP addresses and not ExpressVPN server names, while others (e.g. the 225 models) don’t support VPN clients. ExpressVPN cannot provide support for these routers.
Before you begin, you may wish to make note of your default internet settings. This will help you revert to your original internet settings when the VPN is not needed.
Step 1: Check the LED on your D-Link mydlinkcamera and ensure that it is GREEN.
Step 2: Ensure the camera is connected to your router with an Ethernet cable
Step 3: Ensure that any firewalls you may have installed are configured to allow UDP connections. If you are unsure, temporarily disable any firewalls during the setup.
