How do I update the firmware on my DIR-655 router.

My Windows Vista laptop cannot read that there is a D-Link, DIR-655 network connection available. There are other devices in my household that cannot access it, but mine cannot. I did a random update to my computer a couple of weeks ago, and for the first time, I could connect to wireless. I was directed somewhere (that I cannot find now) to enter the IP and username and it worked for the first time in 2 years. However, the other devices in my household were kicked off temporarily – but came back on the next day. My father reset the router when we were having internet problems and my laptop is back to not being able to read the connection. This is very frustrating – I have been looking everywhere and cannot find a solution that works. Please help!
