Safeguard Engine is a feature designed to enhance the robustness of switches, and increase overall network reliability and availability by identifying bulk traffics, throttling unwanted interruption, and protecting switch operation.

Safeguard Engine effectively protects switches against abnormal bulks of traffic caused by virus infection or worm scanning. With Safeguard Engine, D-Link Switches can further identify and prioritize CPU-intensive applications traffic, throttle interruption, and protect switch operation.

When CPU utilization is over the set threshold, the switch will take action to prevent the over-use of switch resources by stop receiving the ARP packets or by minimizing the bandwidth for ARP packets.

In this way, it not only ensures the stability of switches, but also provides high availability of network connected to it.

The safequard engine is comletely useless and has crippled my switch for 3 months. I even got it exchanged because of ports being non responsive and traffic being blocked randomly.
