How to update firmware for Model ASUS  WL-700geA . Type the following IP address in your web browser:

2. Type “admin” in the default user name and password box .
3. Click on 【Configuration】.


B. Once the page is opened
1. Select 【Advance Setting】to set up the Firmware Update.
2. Choose the【System Setup】

Click on【Firmware Upgrade】

Click on【Browse】

E. Configure the firmware
1. Once the firmware upgrade option is selected a window will automatically pop up.
Choose the pathway to the「WL700gE_1.0.7.8.nas」.
2. Select【Open】.


The Message box will pop up and click on【OK】.

The process is automatically running.

How to set up a reliable Mesh WiFi system in 780m2 (approx. 8396 sq2) ball room?

Therefore, whether in public areas or inside your house, the networking environment has become busier, denser and it requires a powerful back-up technology to support heavy network traffic and to maintain quality Internet connectivity. Next, ASUS will provide you a practical example of how to use and combine ASUS Mesh compatible routers to build up a powerful WiFi system.



Each year, ASUS unveils incredible new products to the world in the big annual event, ASUS TekTrend. There was no exception this year at the 2018 ASUS TekTrend which was held on 6 June at Denwell Hotel Ball Room in Taipei City. With hundreds of journalists, presenters, and guests in attendance, ASUS came up with total solution to digest huge amounts of networking traffic by making use of our latest and powerful Mesh compatible routers.



Below are some major challenges of the scenario:

  •     Ball Room Size: The ball room is a rectangular sized area 780m2 (approx. 8396 sq2) with no walls in the middle.
  •     Approx. Accommodation: Unlike standard meeting rooms for just 20 or 30 guests, the ball room can accommodate almost 200 people. We assumed that each guest had 1 to 2 devices simultaneously connected to the Internet. We then made an overall setup plan to deal with huge traffic in order to offer a quality networking experience.
  •     Safe Networking Issue: Providing a stable and safe networking experience for our users is our main priority. We are committed in making sure all the connected devices are both safe from attacks and under sound protection.
  •     One WiFi Name (SSID) Connection: Within a networking environment especially for business stage, one WiFi name for all guests is a vital element for an excellent networking service. ASUS strives to prevent different WiFi names from confusing users with attempts to search for available WiFi connections.
  •     Environmental Limitations:

   1.  It is not easy to install network cables in the ball room because cables might be in the way of some equipment and have negative effects on the whole layout arrangement. Furthermore, it requires more time and efforts to install cables.

2. There is only one 100Mbps cable available for both the networking setup and live-demo router.

3. For the event, both the ball room and the reception area, which is outside of the ball room, requires Internet connectivity as well. We were dedicated to deliver strong and stable connection for both areas



This event demonstrated a real-life example as an applicable networking solution which gives users a quick overview of how to set up a WiFi system by choosing ASUS Mesh-compatible routers equipped with up-to-date functionality. The routers used for the live-setup placement: 1*RT-AC88U and 3-pack Lyra Trio. The following is the ball room layout and WiFi placement.



We used the RT-AC88U as the main router connected to 100Mbps cable, and connected the Primary Lyra Trio (captain) as AP mode to RT-AC88U with a physical cable. With the compatible Lyra Mesh system, the Primary Lyra Trio wirelessly connected to the Secondary and Third Lyra Trio to form a whole coverage WiFi environment. The Mesh system helps us to overcome environmental limitations by connecting the captain to the nodes wirelessly and saves us time and effort of installing cables.

The reason why the RT-AC88U worked as a main router was because it has higher routing ability with excellent AiProtection functionality which is apt to block external attacks and also protect connected devices within the network. Based on the Mesh network, we were able to configure the system under one WiFi name (SSID). For users, it is easier to recognize and identify which network is available with just one attempt. Furthermore, the Mesh network offers users a roaming experience as long as you are under the WiFi coverage area where it will automatically connect you to the best WiFi signal!

1.  Open your browser and go to http://router.asus.com to enter ASUSWRT interface, then go to USB application.

2.  Then click the “Time machine”

3.  Enable Time machine

4.Select a back path, and set the capacity(0 refers to unlimited).
Notice: The sotorage of the disk must be larger than the MAC’s.

5.  Open Time machine, open time machine preference.

6.  Click “Select Disk”.


7.  Here will list all available disks, and you will see a disk named after router model name.

8.  Use this disk, and you will be asked to enter “Name” and “Password”,  this name and password are login name and password of your ASUS router(default are admin/admin), then click “Connect”.


9.  Backup task started.


When you see the following errors:

MacOS 10.6.x – OSStatus Error 2

MacOX 10.5.x – OSStatus Error -6602


1.      Confirm that you know your username and password for the router.

2.      Plug the HDD into Mac and write down the disk name.

3.      Plug the HDD into router and check the partition name. Take the following screenshot for example, the partition name is sda1.

4.      The disk name on the Mac and the partition name in the router should be the same. If not, change the name on the Mac.

5.      Reboot the Mac and restart the time machine backup.

How to set up VLAN network for BRT series on ASUS BRT-AC828 VPN Wi-Fi Router?


Virtual LAN(VLAN) is a logical LAN segment that is used to segregate a physical network into multiple virtual LAN network. This allows business enviroments to easily manage multiple networks without sacrificing security and restrict the broadcast domain size while reducing the chance of packet collision, and the VLAN network is required in business environment.

The following setting steps explain how to set up VLAN for dividing multiple networks within a company.



Network Topology

Divide network into different departments with VLAN.

Setting Procedure

1. Type router.asus.com or on the address bar and login to the management web console.

2. Click VLAN from the Advanced Settings on the left column.

* If you’ve already changed default IP address , type the new IP address to login .

* Please use network tool “Device Discovery” if you forgot a new IP address.

3.  Enable VLAN

4.  Click Edit (Pen) icon to edit VLAN settings

*All ports and wireless SSIDs belonging to VLAN1 show as factory default. That’s a broadcast domain so it’s the same group of devices to be assigned to all the same VLAN ID.

*For subnet on default, it’s set to IP address and subnet by the part of LAN settings.

5. Create VLAN for administrator team. Delete all except for LAN1 to LAN4, and click OK.

6. Next, create a VLAN for sales division. Click “+” to add.

7.  Input VLAN information

VLAN ID: VLAN number

Priority:This setting is used for setting priority on network traffic. You can set it from 0 (Best effort) to 7(the highest)

Subnet:It shows IP address segment and default gateway IP address. If you have to set up detailed IP address, please click Edict (Pen) icon.


8. Click OK once the you complete setting.

※PVID(Port VLAN ID) assigns VLAN when it gets untagged frame to the port.  If it gets tagged frame, the system refers VLAN ID and decide VLAN destination. 


Tagged VLAN

Tagged VLAN means frames which belong to the same VLAN can be tagged with a VLAN ID , therefore, the virtual network can be built among multiple network switches via connecting trunk port of switch. To cascade multiple switch with the same VLAN network, you have to enable tagging on specified LAN interface.

On the following network topology, Port5 belongs to VLAN1 and VLAN2, transfer frame with tagged VLAN to another network appliance (ex. switch).

How to use web graphic user interface (GUI) to setup encryption for a ASUS wireless router? (WPA2-AES)

1. Connect your PC’s Ethernet port to the LAN port on the router using an Ethernet cable.

2. Launch your web browser, then type in to login the web setting page.

3. Input the default user name “admin” and password “admin” on the login page.

4. Follow the instructions below to setup on the main page.

Step1: Click on “AP” figure on the central of the main page

Step2: Create your own SSID (Wireless name)

(After searching, you can find the available wireless router.)

Step3: Select 「WPA2-Personal」from「Security Level」drop-down menu

Step4: Select「AES」from「WPA Encryption」drop-down menu

Step5: You could set a password that must contain 8 characters at least (0~9, A~Z, a~z)

Step6: Click on「Apply」to save your settings.
