1.Can the D-Link Network Camera be used outdoors?

The Network Camera is not weatherproof. It needs to be equipped with a weatherproof case to be used outdoors and it is not recommended.

2.What is the difference between D-Link D-ViewCam and the traditional surveillance system?

D-Link D-ViewCam records video in MJPEG and MPEG4 formats, stores high quality image data on computer hard disks, and provides easy query and review of the stored video. Traditional surveillance systems use videotape for storage and review, which is hard to managed, time consuming and the recorded video will degrade over a period of time or usage.

3.What is the Lux Factor for my Internet camera?

Lux is a unit of illumination equal to one candle intensity or equal to one lumen per square meter.

Note: Lower LUX value cameras work better in low light.

4.Why use the D-Link D-ViewCam Intelligent Solution?

D-Link D-ViewCam is the bundled video surveillance system software that provides advanced security monitoring and device management functions to use with D-Link Internet cameras. This software uses IP technology to provide comprehensive management functions such as system controls, live video feeds and archived recordings.

D-Link today introduced its Mydlink-enabled Wireless-N Day/Night Network Camera (model DCS-932L). According to the company, with a built-in CPU and Web server the DCS-932L offers a complete monitoring system for homes and small offices, at resolutions of up to 640×480 pixels.

D-Link says that the new camera is simple to install and has an intuitive Web-based interface. Consumers can integrate it into an existing network and view the streaming video from a PC, notebook, or mobile device such as an iPhone or Android-based smartphone.

DCS-932L

The DCS-932L camera supports built-in Wireless-N and Wi-Fi Protected Setup, which makes hooking it up to an existing wireless network an easy job. It offers Motion JPEG and 20-frames-per-second streaming, as well as new infrared illumination technology for night viewing.

According to D-Link, the infrared technology used in the camera enables you to monitor a home or small office for up to 16 feet away from the camera.

The D-Link DCS-932L Wireless-N IP camera is now available for $150.

The D-Link DCS-930L camera debuted at the end of 2010 and is an entry into a new market for D-Link, which has its North American offices in Fountain Valley, CA. The camera can connect to your network wirelessly or using a standard ethernet cord and the picture can be viewed on an iPhone or Android app.

dcs-930l-1

These are the contents of the DCS-930L Box. The device retails for around $80.

The box says installation is easy, but it might not be easy for everyone. Installation seems to require a Windows PC, which means if you’re a Mac owner setup will require borrowing someone else’s computer. And though setting up the camera to use a wired connection was easy, it wasn’t easy to do the same thing for wireless during initial testing.

This is D-Link’s DCS-930L in the standard vertical position.

 dcs-930l-3

The DCS-930L can be swiveled into the horizontal position, but the Web-based controls and the iPhone app don’t seem to allow you to rotate the picture if you rotate the camera.

dcs-930l-4

When up and running, the D-Link DCS-930L camera is effective. A tap on your iPhone and you can bring up the live picture of any of the cameras connected to your account. Check back at OC Unwired for a full review in the coming week, but if you have questions or just want to be alerted when a full review is done.

The default port used by the camera D-Link DCS-910/DCS-920 is 80. If this port is available to use, you do not have to open a second port. You will need to open port 80 on your router or firewall.

If port 80 is not available (for example , if you are already using port 80 to run a Web server or your ISP blocks access to on port 80*) or are using multiples cameras, you MUST open a second port and designate a new Web server port.

The ports that are opened must be unique for each camera in order to successfully view the images remotely.

Step 1: Open a web browser and type the ip address of your router http://192.168.0.1 in order to open port 81.

Step 2: On your D-link router click on Advanced tab at the top then click on Virtual Server on the left side.

Step 3: Enter valid ports on the Virtual Server section of your router. Please make sure to check the box next to the camera name on the Virtual Server List to enable your settings.

Step 4: Open a web browser and type the IP address of your camera (192.168.0.99) and click on the Setup Tab.

Step 5: Click Network Setup on the left side.

Step 6: Click Enabled, next to Second HTTP Port, and type in the port number you want to use. You can use any port number that is not being used.

Step 7: Click on Save settings.
