When entering the IP address of the D-Link router DIR-665(192.168.0.1 for example), you are not connecting to a website on the Internet or have to be connected to the Internet. The device has the utility built-in to a ROM chip in the device itself. Your computer must be on the same IP subnet to connect to the web-based utility.

1.Make sure you have an updated Java-enabled web browser. We recommend the following:

• Internet Explorer 6.0 or higher
• Netscape 8 or higher
• Mozilla 1.7.12 (5.0) or higher
• Opera 8.5 or higher
• Safari 1.2 or higher (with Java 1.3.1 or higher)
• Camino 0.8.4 or higher
• Firefox 1.5 or higher

2.Verify physical connectivity by checking for solid link lights on the device. If you do not get a solid link light, try using a different cable or connect to a different port on the device if possible. If the computer is turned off, the link light may not be on.

3.Disable any internet security software running on the computer. Software firewalls such as Zone Alarm, Black Ice, Sygate, Norton Personal Firewall, and Windows® XP firewall may block access to the configuration pages. Check the help files included with your firewall software for more information on disabling or configuring it.

4.Configure your Internet settings:

• Go to Start > Settings > Control Panel. Double-click the Internet Options Icon. From the Security tab, click the button to restore the settings to their defaults.
• Click the Connection tab and set the dial-up option to Never Dial a Connection. Click the LAN Settings button. Make sure nothing is checked. Click OK.
• Go to the Advanced tab and click the button to restore these settings to their defaults. Click OK three times.
• Close your web browser (if open) and open it.

5.Access the web management. Open your web browser and enter the IP address of your D-Link router in the address bar. This should open the login page for your the web management.

6.If you still cannot access the configuration, unplug the power to the D-Link router for 10 seconds and plug back in. Wait about 30 seconds and try accessing the configuration. If you have multiple computers, try connecting using a different computer.

When you install a new D-Link router it is the same thing as creating a new network. Software firewalls and sometimes even the Windows firewall has to be told that you have a new trusted device on the network.

You can either set the D-Link router has a trusted network or it may require the MAC address from the bottom of the router.

DAP-1522 Wireless Bridge/Access Point Description:

The D-Link Xtreme N™ Duo Wireless Bridge/Access Point is designed for users looking to create a wireless network or to connect multiple wired devices to an existing wireless network. Xtreme N Duo is the latest addition to the award-winning Xtreme N product family. Duo means the DAP-1522 works with next generation dual band (2.4GHz or 5GHz)* 802.11n wireless devices as well as legacy 802.11g products.

Bring your wired devices into the Wi-Fi world with the DAP-1522 Xtreme N® Duo Wireless Bridge. You’ll be Xtremely glad you did.

These products use the current draft version of the 802.11n standard. Compatibility with other draft-n and current 802.11n products is guaranteed by the Wi-Fi Alliance. However, some features were added in later revisions of the spec, and it is possible that they will not work correctly. In most cases a firmware upgrade will solve any problems (consider if you feel confident performing such an update). Also, while 802.11n is designed to be backwards compatible with 802.11g, 802.11b and 802.11a, it had been noticed that -n can interfere with the operation of current 802.11b and g products.

Other features, see http://www.dlink.com/products/?pid=DAP-1522

Price range: $74.99 – $102.24

HD Movie :and You Tube streaming on to my TV work excellent, which is really all that matters. Customer support, which you will need to set it up, was probably the most knowledgeable I have worked with in recent years. Works with Apple Time Capsule..

Cons: Difficult to set-up unless you happen to have a d-link router and use the one-button set-up. Call 24/7 help desk and they will walk you through set up. Manuals are weak. Also, range is limited. Can’t go in a drawer or cabinet. Needs to sit on top..

Summary: For the price, it is a good product. Actual data streaming works very well, which is ultimately all that matters. Manuals are weak but customer service is strong. Range is limited, but sufficient if you don’t mind putting the unit on the surface.

Pros: Easy, pushbutton setup, includes 4-port hub..

Cons: Web interface could be a bit easier to access..

Summary: I have a home theater system with multiple devices that require Internet access, some of them are not wireless. The D-Link DAP-1522 allows me to route everything through a single access point, with all devices set to “wired” mode and the router assigning DHCP addesses to each device.

Pros: 8 ports LAN ports (yeah… I was reaching for something nice to say)

Can be used as an effective paperweight.

Cons: The device will not last. As other reviewers have indicated, there are strange issues with this router. If you buy, do not expect features such as port forwarding, VPN access (PPTP/L2TP/IPSec) to work after 6-9 months. Oh… and do not expect firmware updates either, as the last update was 5/24/2008 (this post is as of 4/9/2010).

Other Thoughts: Although this is a poor product from D-Link, I still use other D-Link routers with which I am very happy.

2.Customer msee2001 said:

Pros: Low price, easy to setup.

Cons: Needs a firmware update when you get it.

Other Thoughts: Do the firmware update first. I have used 3 on these VPN routers and they all have worked fine. It’s not Cisco but then it’s only about $100. Have connected three buildings together with no problems, 2 have been connected for almost 2 years with no prolems at all.

“Does work with a fios connection and does provide good speed…”

“I brought two for myself and recommended it to a client that has Fios…”

“The warranty is only good for one year, so I’m out of luck…”

Microsoft only offers UPnP in Windows Me and XP.

NOTE: Make sure that you have MSN Messenger version 5.0 or higher and that you have the latest firmware version on your router.

Step 1: Open MSN Messenger and sign in.

Step 2: Right-click on My Network Places and click on Properties.

Step 3: Right-click on Internet Connection and click on Properties.

Step 4: Click on Settings and you will see entries for MSMSGS with port numbers and the IP address of your computer. These are the port numbers that MSN Messenger needs open for all of it´s functions to work properly. These entries are also applied to the router in order for the application to work properly from behind the firewall.

Step 5: Access the router’s web configuration by entering the router’s IP address in your web browser. The default IP address is 192.168.0.1. Login using your password. The default username is admin and the password is blank.

Step 6: Click the Advanced tab then click Firewall. You will see the same entries for MSMSGS that were in the settings of the Internet Connection.

If you still experience problems or if the settings on your computer and router don´t appear as they do in this FAQ, make sure that UPnP is installed on your computer and that the service is started.
