D-Link Australia and New Zealand managing director, Domenic Torre, announced the appointment of former Symantec Norton anti-virus team retail sales manager, Mary Georgievski, as consumer sales manager for ANZ. Georgievski also worked for IT distributor, Ingram Micro.

According to Georgievski, D-Link’s consumer business is tracking “relatively strong at the moment,” and she says, “while the retail market is a little tough, as evidenced by the number of special deals on offer, we are in a stronger position than most other suppliers.”

“With the whole move to digital convergence people are still buying new hardware devices like tablets, media players and smart TVs. And these devices rely on the seamless end-to-end connectivity solutions — such as wireless routers and PowerLine AV products — that D-Link provides.”

Georgievski says that while D-Link is best known for networking products, the company has also moved into the entertainment business, with products like the Boxee Box media streaming device helping to “enrich the digital experience for consumers.”

Based at D-Link’s ANZ Sydney headquarters, Georgievski reports to managing director, Domenic Torre, who said Georgievski’s appointment would ensure the company maintained a “strong level of engagement with all our key retail and distribution partners.”

Delivering better connectivity, security, efficiency and value, as well as IP surveillance cameras, D-Link provides network solutions for the implementation of any IP surveillance project. The company also manufactures switches, storage devices, network security and wireless products. D-Link’s range is now available through Norbain.

D-Link were one of the first manufacturers to recognise the need for more energy-efficient switches. Cutting power consumption without sacrificing performance, D-Link’s ‘Green’ products use fan-less technology that saves energy and reduces failure rates, and feature ‘intelligent’ ports that ration power to where it’s most needed.

Power-over-Ethernet (PoE) switches offer unparalleled flexibility and value by delivering power via connecting Ethernet cables to devices such as Access Points, VoIP phones or IP cameras; useful for where power sockets are either unavailable or inconvenient to install.

D-Link offers a wide portfolio of Storage solutions; from easy to manage Network Attached Storage (NAS) devices, to high-performance, high-capacity Storage Area Network (SAN) solutions. Cost-effective, they provide centralised data storage accessible from multiple locations on the network or over the Internet.

D-Link’s latest generation of Wireless N products provide bandwidth and transfer speeds comparable to their wired equivalents. Robust enough to be deployed at the very core of a network, they give greatly enhanced reliability and coverage, and include advanced security features to keep organisations safe from intrusion.

D-Link’s range of NetDefend Network Security products provides an all-in-one security package; protecting against viruses, preventing intrusion and filtering content. They can stop access to blacklisted websites, monitor instant messaging and protect remote workers while cutting the time-cost of security management.

Applying their 25 years of networking expertise, D-Link has developed a wide choice of IP Cameras that cater for the needs of any business. Using advanced technology, D-Link IP cameras produce high-resolution images and work in the dimmest of light conditions. They can send instant intrusion warnings 24/7 to a PC, smart phone or any web-enabled device.

“From start-ups through to multi-site operations, D-Link’s broad range of innovative technology offers customisable and flexible solutions,” says Buzz Coates, Norbain’s Divisional Director Branded CCTV. “Whether starting from scratch, extending an existing IP network or upgrading from an analogue installation, D-Link’s networked systems can help installers achieve maximum value with the minimum of cost.”

When we initially heard about Intel’s Wireless Display (WiDi for short) technology, we immediately suspected it would become the next killer application for notebooks. The dream of wireless streaming for video, particularly in consumer machines at consumer-level prices, was a big one. To date, WiDi hasn’t really grabbed a huge chunk of mind share, at least not in the way of some other things — things like Android and iOS. That said, it’s still a viable option, and it’s only getting better with time.

Dlink-mainstage

D-Link is now looking to cash in on the solution by shipping their MainStage for Wireless Display (DHD-131), which delivers the web directly to TV screens. It claims to be an easy way to surf the Web, view photos and stream online video, all from their HDTV; all you have to do is plug MainStage into the TV using an HDMI or A/V cable and with a push of a button it automatically connects to your router, allowing you to surf the web and view home movies from a network computer or laptop.

Dlink-mainstage2

It relies on WiDi’s 2.0 implementation, allowing customers to enjoy Blu-ray movies, DVD movies, and content from Internet services like Intel Insider on your HDTV with up to 1080p HD clarity and 5.1 surround sound, and also share pictures, music, or videos. It’s available for $129.99 right now in the U.S., and will be available in Canada in July for $129.99. Not exactly cheap, but hey, cutting the cord never has been.

IPv6 is a new version of the Internet Protocol designed to succeed Internet IPv4, which is projected to exhaust all available IP addresses by the end of 2011. In addition to providing enough addresses so every device today and in the future has a unique address, IPv6 offers a wide range of improvements, including increased network speeds and accessibility, significant security enhancements, simplified network management, and seamless communication between IPv4 and IPv6 networks.

“Cable service providers are dedicated to providing customers with future-proof technology to ensure the best service possible, making The Cable Show 2011 an ideal venue to focus on the importance of transitioning to IPv6-compatible solutions,” said Eli Gavra, general manager, Service Provider Business Unit, D-Link North America. “D-Link is an early adopter of IPv6 with a number of products already IPv6-ready, and through our relationships and field trials with the tier-one North American cable service providers, we deliver future-proof solutions for service providers, businesses and consumers.”

Claire Cheng, senior product planner, D-Link Corporation, will be participating in a panel discussion about the implications and impact of the IPv6 migration in the IPv6 Symposium on June 14 at 8:30 a.m. (room S404). Joined by industry experts from Best Buy, Facebook, Premier Communications, and Turner Broadcasting System, Inc., Cheng will address the significant IPv6 changes for web content providers, device manufacturers, network operators, and consumers.

D-Link will showcase its wide array of IPv6-compatible products in booth #2136, including the DIR-655 and DIR-825 routers, DHP-W306AV PowerLine AV Wireless N Extender, DHP-1320 A1 Wireless N PowerLine Router, DCS-6111 IP surveillance camera, DCM-301 DOCSIS 3.0 Cable Modem, and DCM-704b DOCSIS 3.0 Cable Gateway.

D-Link Products for Consumers, Small Businesses and Service Providers Offering one of the industry’s largest portfolios of consumer products shipping with “IPv6 Ready Phase II” certification, D-Link has a range of IPv6-compliant routers, access points and powerline communication devices for the home. The company’s newest networking switches and IP surveillance cameras designed for small businesses and medium enterprise IT environments also feature IPv6 interoperability. In addition, D-Link is deploying products and conducting field test trials with many leading phone and cable service providers worldwide to ensure Internet service performance, security and overall reliability during the IPv6 transition.

World IPv6 Day

To help support a smooth IPv6 transition, D-Link is participating in World IPv6 Day on June 8, 2011, where several major Web providers and other industry players will offer content over IPv6 for a 24-hour “test flight.” Throughout the event, D-Link will monitor activities to discover and address any potential issues, as well as raise awareness of the need for IPv6 readiness. The goal is to motivate organizations across the industry — ISPs, hardware makers, operating system vendors and web companies — to prepare their services for IPv6 to ensure a successful transition.

For more information about the upcoming IPv6 transition, including benefits for consumers and small businesses and a complete list of D-Link IPv6-ready products, visit D-Link’s new IPv6 Readiness website.
