To host an FTP server behind a router D-Link, you must open port 20 (TCP) and 21 (TCP) in the router and point to the computer with the FTP server software. In addition, you can configure your FTP client to passive mode to use. Internet users should access the router’s WAN IP address to your FTP server software and configure your client in passive mode.

For the D-Link DI-514, DI-524, DI-604 (US only), DI-614+, DI-624, DI-704P(revC), DI-754, DI-764, DI-774, and DI-784:

Step 1: Open a web browser like Internet Explorer and enter the IP address of the router (192.168.0.1). Enter the name admin () and password blank ().

Step 2: Click Advanced, then Firewall.

Step 3: Create a rule in the firewall: Click Enabled.
Enter a name (ftp).
Click Allow.

Source of this page, select the WAN interface. In the first field, enter an *. Leave the second box empty.
Depending on the destination, choose the LAN interface. Enter the IP address of the computer on the FTP server. Leave the second box empty.

Under the Protocol, select TCP. In the beach areas of Port, type 20 in the first zone and 21 in the second box.

Step 4: Click Apply and then Continue to save settings.

D-Link DI-524 Wireless Router has been discontinued as of February 01, 2008 in the US.

There are multiple revisions of the D-Link DI-524, each with revision specific drivers, firmware, installation guides, and other resources.

For D-Link DI-514, DI-524, DI-604, DI-614+, DI-624, DI-704P (rev. B & C), DI-704UP, DI-707P, DI-714P+, DI-754, DI-764, DI-774, and DI-784:

You can stealth ports on any D-Link router by forwarding traffic for a particular port to an invalid IP on your LAN.

For example, if you want to stealth port 125, go to the Virtual Server from the web management on your router and map port 113 to 192.168.0.250, or another IP address not in use on your local network.

Note: When stealthing port 113, certain programs like Mirc and ICQ may not work.

Step 1: Open your web browser and enter the IP address of your D-Link router (192.168.0.1). Enter username (admin) and your password (blank by default).

Step 2: Click on Advanced on top and then click Virtual Server on the left side.

Step 3: Make a new entry:

  • Click Enabled
  • Enter name (stealth113)
  • For Private IP, enter an IP address not on your network (ie 192.168.0.250)
  • Select TCP for Protocol Type
  • Enter 113 for both Private and Public Ports
  • Select Always
  • Click Apply and then Continue to save changes.

If you D-Link router is DI-514, DI-524, DI-604, DI-614+, DI-624, DSL-604+ :

Step 1: Open your web browser and enter the IP address of your router (192.168.0.1). Enter username (admin) and your password (leave blank by default).

Step 2: Click on Advanced and then Virtual Server.

Step 3: Create the rule:

  • Click Enabled.
  • Enter a name (xbconnect).
  • Next to Private IP, enter the IP address of the computer you are running XBConnect from.
  • Select Both for Protocol Type.
  • Enter 8602 next to Private Port and Public Port.
  • Click Always or configure a schedule.

Step 4 Click Apply and then click Continue.

Note: If the screenshots look different (DI-604), then you have the European version of the router which D-Link USA does not support.

How to reset router back to the factory default settings?

Step 1 With the unit on, place a paper clip into the hole on the back on the unit labeled Reset.

Step 2 Hold paper clip down for 10 seconds and release. (Note: Do not repower unit during this procedure.)

Step 3 The unit will reboot on its own. Once the WLAN light stops blinking, the unit is reset.

Resetting the router does not reset the firmware to an earlier version. It will change all settings back to factory defaults.
