VLANs can be easily organized to reflect department groups (such as R&D, Marketing), usage groups (such as e-mail), or multicast groups (multimedia applications such as video conferencing), and therefore help to simplify network management by allowing users to move devices to a new VLAN without having to change any physical connections.

The IEEE 802.1Q VLAN Configuration page provides powerful VID management functions. The original settings have the VID as 01, named “default”, and all ports as “Untagged”.

Rename: Click to rename the VLAN group.
Delete VID: Click to delete the VLAN group.
Add New VID: Click to create a new VID group, assigning ports from 01 to 28 as Untag, Tag, or Not Member:A port can be untagged in only one VID. To save the VID group, press Apply.You may change the name accordingly to the desired groups, such as the aforementioned R&D, Marketing,email, etc.

Step 2: Choose Advanced Settings -> VLAN on the left hand menu.

Step 3: Select Enable under VLAN Status and then hit the Save Button.

Step 4: Click the Trash Can Icon next to the default VLAN to delete the default VLAN.

Step 5: Now we are going to add our VLANs to this AP. We will begin with a default VLAN and then add one or more additional VLANs.

Setup VLANs on D-Link Web Smart Switches,DGS-1248T As an Example:

Step 1: Open a web browser and login to the web-based configuration of the DGS-1248T.

Step 2: Click VLAN on the left.

Step 3: Click Add New VID.

Step 4: Enter the VID number. This must be a number between 2 and 4095. Select the ports that you want in the new VLAN and then click Apply.

Step 5: Select Port VID Setting using the drop-down list next to IEEE 802.10 VLAN.

Step 6: Enter the VID next to the corresponding ports and then click Apply.

Step 7: Un-check the ports you configured with the new VID from the default VLAN and then click Apply.

Step 2: Open hyperterminal on the computer and configure as followed:

• Bits per second: 9600
• Data bits: 8
• Parity: None
• Stop bits: 1
• Flow Control: None

Launch the hyperterminal monitor and Power cycle the switch.
When it boots up, log in using the default user name, admin, and no password.
Press Enter to get the console# prompt.

Step 3: Set an IP address on the switch.
Note: The IP address needs to be on the same subnet as your computer.

Step 4: Open a web browser, such as Internet Explorer or Netscape, and enter the IP address, that you set in the previous step, in the address bar.

eg. http://192.168.0.200 .

Step 5: You will be prompted for a user name and password.The default user name is admin and there is no password. Select OK.

Step 6: Select Basic Setup, from the top. Under Vlan, on the left side, select Properties.

Step 7: Click the Create button and use the following configuration:
VLAN ID: 2.
VLAN Name: VLAN2.
Click Submit.

Step 8: Go back to Vlan, on the left side, and select Properties again.
Select Show All.
You should now see both your Vlans
ie. 1 and 2.

Step 9: Under Vlan.
Select Membership. You should see Vlan 1 the default port settings.

Step 10: Select the ports you wish to assign to Vlan 2.
In this example we use ports 3, 4 and 5 for our Vlan 2.

Step 11: In the example port 5 is being configured for Vlan 2 Selecting Vlan ID 2 and Selecting the number 5 just above port 5.

Select Untagged and press Submit.

Step 12: To save your settings, select File Management, from the left side. Choose Copy Files.

Step 13: Select the radio button next to Copy Configuration.

Set Source to Running Configuration.
Set Destination to Startup Configuration.
Press Submit.

Step 14: Press Close.

Furthermore, you can enable the VLAN State to allow the Business Class AP to work with VLAN-supported switches or other devices. When the Primary SSID is set to Open System without encryption, the Guest SSIDs can only be set to no encryption, WEP, WPA-Personal or WPA2-Personal.

When the Primary SSIDs security is set to Open or Shared System WEP key, the Guest SSIDs can be set to use no encryption, use three other WEP keys, WPA-Personal, or WPA2-Personal.

When the Primary SSIDs security is set to WPA-Personal, WPA2-Personal, or WPA-Auto-Personal, slot 2 and slot 3 are used. The Guest SSIDs can be set to use no encryption, WEP, or WPA-Personal.

When the Primary SSIDs security is set to WPA-Enterprise, WPA2-Enterprise, or WPA-Auto-Enterprise, the Guest SSIDs can be set to use any security.

Business Class APs listed in this FAQ will support VLANs. VLANs can be created with a Name and VID. Mgmt (TCP stack), LAN, Primary / Multiple SSID and WDS Connection can be assigned to VLAN as they are physical ports. Any packet that enters the AP without a VLAN tag will have a VLAN tag inserted with a PVID.

Step 1: As most APs, the default static IP address is 192.168.0.50.

Step 2: Setup the AP with an IP Address pertaining to your Management Subnet.

Step 3: Prepare your Primary SSID in the Basic Settings.

Step 4: In Advanced Settings go into Multi-SSID to enable and start adding more SSIDs.

Step 5: Use the Index selection to activate the next SSID and configure the settings. Only by clicking on the ADD button will the next SSID be added to the AP. Add as many as you want or the amount supported by the AP from the Index list.

Step 6: In Advanced Settings select VLAN and Enable with the radio button. In the VLAN List, click on the edit icon to enter the default VLAN settings.

Step 7: In this default VLAN, maintain the Management and the LAN port, Untagged . Modify which SSIDs will belong to the default VLAN, though in most cases it´s only the Primary SSID. Once again, click on the ADD button to make the changes.

Step 8: Click on the ADD/EDIT VLAN tab, to add each of the next VLAN ID, Name and associated SSID. The LAN port has to be Tagged but the Management port set to Not A Member.

Step 9: Click on ADD for each addition. Confirm that all is assign correctly in the VLAN List.

Step 10: Click on the PVID Setting tab. Preferably set to Auto Assign if single VLANs are assign to each SSID. Click on Apply to finalize.

D-Link DGS-3100-48P,If you are using the HTTP GUI then you will need to ensure that from the VLAN configuration page you select the unit “Trunk” from the stack unit drop-down.

Step2: Choose the menu L2 Features->VLAN->Static VLAN on the left hand side.

Step 3: In the row for VID 1 click the Modify button. Switch any port that will be untagged on your new VLAN to the None radio button for that port. Click Apply when finished.

Step 4: Click the Show All Static VLAN Entries link. Click on the Add button. Enter your desired VID and VLAN Name for your new VLAN. Any port you wish to be a member should have its Egress radio button selected. Untagged members require no further modification. Tagged members must also have the Tag check box checked. Hit Apply when finished.

Step 5: Select the menu Save Services->Save Changes. Click the Save button.
