The DSR-500N includes dual-WAN Gigabit Ethernet which provides policy-based service management ensuring maximum productivity for your business operations. The failover feature maintains data traffic without disconnecting when a landline connection is lost. Robust VPN Features

A fully featured virtual private network (VPN) provides your mobile workers and branch offices with a secure link to your network. The DSR-500N are capable of simultaneously managing 10 Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) VPN tunnels respectively, empowering your mobile users by providing remote access to a central corporate database. Site-to-site VPN tunnels use IP Security (IPSec) Protocol, Point-to-Point Tunneling Protocol (PPTP), or Layer 2 Tunneling Protocol (L2TP) to facilitate branch office connectivity through encrypted virtual links. Super G is Atheros’ proprietary frame-bursting, compression and channel bonding technology to improve IEEE 802.11g wireless LAN performance. The throughput transmission speed limit when using Super G is claimed to be up to 40Mbit/s-60Mbit/s at a 108Mbit/s signaling rate, which is achieved through the bonding of two 54Mbit/s 802.11g channels.

Other vendors have marketed Super G products as 108G Technology, 108Mbit/s 802.11g, and Xtreme G. Manufacturers that have licensed Super G technology from Atheros include Airlink 101, Clipsal, D-Link, Intelbras, Netgear, Nortel Networks, Planex, SMC, Sony, TRENDnet, SparkLAN, Toshiba and ZyXEL. In general, Super G products from different vendors are all interoperable in Super G mode.

Non-standard channel bonding extensions to 802.11g, such as Super G, have been criticized for creating interference on all Wi-Fi channels, potentially causing issues with other wireless devices in the band such as neighboring wireless networks, cordless telephones, baby monitors, and Bluetooth devices. However, Atheros claims that in real-world scenarios with physical separation and walls, closely located networks will not experience any interference from a Super G network.

Super G is one of several competing proprietary approaches that were developed to increase performance of 802.11g wireless devices, such as 125 High Speed Mode from Broadcom, MIMO-based extensions from Airgo Networks, and Nitro from Conexant.

Step 1: Right click the Wireless status Icon in the task bar, to open the Wireless Manager.

Access Point Mode

The DWL-2100AP is set to Access Point (AP) mode by default, which allows the DWL-2100AP to connect to wireless clients.

Step 1: Using an Ethernet cable connect the DWL-2100AP to your PC.

Step 2: Your computer will need to be in the same IP address range of the DWL-2100AP for configuration. The default IP address of the DWL-2100AP is 192.168.0.50.

Step 3: Open a web browser and type the IP address of the DWL-2100AP in the address bar (default is 192.168.0.50). Press Enter.

Step 4: The default username is admin (all lower case) and the default password is blank (nothing). Click OK.

Step 5: Select the Advanced tab and the Mode button.

Step 6: Select Access Point using the radio buttons.

Step 7: Click Apply and then click Continue to save new settings.


Point-to-Point Bridge

As a wireless bridge the DWL-2100AP allows you to connect two wireless LANs together.

Step 1: Log into the Access Point or Wireless Router that the D-Link DWL-2100AP is going to bridge and write down the Ethernet MAC Address or LAN Mac Address.

Step 2: Using an Ethernet cable connect the DWL-2100AP to your PC.

Step 3: Your computer will need to be in the same IP address range of the DWL-2100AP for configuration. The default IP address of the DWL-2100AP is 192.168.0.50.

Step 4: Open a web browser and type the IP address of the DWL-2100AP in the address bar (default is 192.168.0.50). Press Enter.

The company announced at CES 2010 two new Wireless-N routers: the the D-Link Touch DIR-865 and the D-Link Wireless N Pocket Router. The Touch is a flagship high-speed Wireless-N router,whereas the Pocket Router is a minimobile router for people on the go.

According to D-Link, the Touch blends power, speed, range, security, functionality, and energy efficiency into one economical box that has the shape of traditional D-Link routers, complete with three external antennas. The router sports a 3-inch interactive touch screen for easy setup, configuration, and management of the router and Internet traffic.

The Touch supports true dual-band capabilities, working in 2.4GHz and 5GHz bands at the simultaneously. Three data streams offer throughput speeds of up to 450Mbps when used with the same standard wireless clients. Like all Wireless-N routers, it’s also backward compatible with earlier standards (802.11a/b/g).

If the Touch is a high-end router for the savvy user, the D-Link Wireless N Pocket Router is designed as a travel companion for people on the go, and features multimode functionality. It can be used either as a wireless router to create an 802.11n Wi-Fi network anywhere one is needed, or as an access point (AP) to add Wi-Fi to an existing wired network. The device can also be used to add wireless capability to an Ethernet-ready device, such as a desktop PC or an Xbox 360.

Despite its small size, the Pocket Router also comes with a USB port and supports D-Link’s SharePort technology, which allows the router to work as an extension of a networked computer’s USB port.

Neither of the new routers from D-Link will be available until mid 2010. Their prices and other details will be revealed then.
